New Must-Hear: Owen Pallett’s Heartland

And now for a more organic side of music.

Heartland is the masterfully composed album from Owen Pallett, the one man band formerly known as Final Fantasy.

The obvious comparison here would be Andrew Bird: a violinist with a loop pedal and a smooth voice. Sonically, however, the album is more reminiscent of Joanna Newsom‘s Y’s, but with denser arrangements.

Heartland provides several deep releases with incredibly dramatic moments and some electronic bleeps here and there to further the music’s motion. At its biggest, the album feels operatic.

Pallett shows his orchestral know-how well throughout the entire album, utilizing the Czech Philharmonic as backup.
